Dosanjh wants crackdown on
people-smuggling
PENTICTON
(CKNW/AM980) -- Premier Ujjal Dosanjh says the RCMP and
the federal government need to work harder to combat
people-smuggling. The Premier says more needs to be done
to prevent immigrants from getting hooked up with
smugglers who deal in human cargo: "I'm an immigrant, so
I recognize people's desire to come to this beautiful
province and this country. There are also laws in place,
so don't disobey our laws."
Dosanjh was reacting to an incident this weekend
in which 21 Koreans tried to cross the border into the
U.S., at a point near Osoyoos. The group, including men,
women, and children, are being held in a jail in
Okanogan, Wash., and will likely be deported back to
Korea.
