Koreans open their defence
VICTORIA
(CKNW/AM980) -- The defence has opened its case at the
Victoria trail of nine Koreans accused of smuggling a
boatload of Chinese migrants to the Queen Charlotte
Islands last summer. The captain of the rusty fish
packing boat says they were hijacked by two dozen armed
men in the South China Sea last July 12th. That's when
Chinese migrants and enforcers came on board. Chong-un
Kim says he and the chief engineer were told by leaders
of the gang their families would be killed unless they
followed orders. Kim's lawyer says the captain will
testify when they reached the coast of B.C., the
enforcers couldn't contact another boat by satellite
phone so they told the captain to put the migrants
ashore on a beach in the Queen Charlottes, which they
did.
