Mass deportation
PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. - Another large group of
illegal migrants is on its way home to China. A chartered 747 jet
took off from the Prince George Airport with 90 boat people aboard
Thursday afternoon.
The migrants had been locked up in Prince George for the past
year. Eighty-six migrants are still being held at an old jail,
that's being used as a detention centre.
This follows the last mass deportation in May, when another group
of 90 people was flown back to China, after failing to win refugee
status. Earlier, 23 other migrants were deported.
About 600 Chinese people arrived off the coast of B.C. in four
rusty old freighters last summer. Immigration officials say more
deportations are in the works.
