More suspected illegal immigrants caught

Police have caught more suspected illegal immigrants near Dalian in northeast Liaoning province, state media reported yesterday.

Xinhua said police from Dalian's Ganjingzi Border Patrol Unit found 75 suspected illegal immigrants hidden in a boat on Tuesday.

The report said the suspects were heading for an unidentified destination and each had paid their snakeheads 40,000 to 60,000 yuan (HK$37,600 to HK$56,400) for the voyage.

It was the third major arrest made by border patrol police in the area in the past 10 days. Before the Tuesday bust, police had foiled three smuggling attempts to sneak 144 people out of the country on boats this month.
